Lee N. Metchick, MD, F.A.C.E

Inducted as a fellow into the American College of Endocrinology, Lee N. Metchick, MD is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. He received his Bachelors of Science at Union College in Schenectady, NY, then achieved a Master of Science at the University of Connecticut. He then continued his medical training at St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies. From there he conducted his internal medicine residency training at the University of Connecticut and then his fellowship training in endocrinology at Bay State Medical Center, a campus of Tufts University. He moved to Florida in 2004 where he opened a solo practice in Endocrinology and has since opened 2 additional locations.

Meet The Team
Crystal Mead
Crystal Mead is a board certified physician assistant. She received an undergraduate degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition with emphasis in dietetics from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. She earned her degree in physician assistant studies from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Crystal is a New Smyrna Beach native, attending local schools including New Smyrna Beach Senior High School.  Prior to joing Endocrinology of Central Florida, she worked in cardiology in Port Orange, Florida. She joined Endocrinology of Central Florida in 2006.

Kristi McKenzie-Coody
Kristi graduated from University of Central Florida (UCF) in 1998 with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a major in Marketing. Upon completion of that degree she entered the healthcare arena, working as a healthcare risk manger at two local hospitals in Volusia County until 2005. She took a few years off to be a stay at home mom, and then decided to return to school to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Bethune Cookman University, where she graduated summa cum laude in 2014. While attending Bethune Cookman she was the president of the Florida Student Nurses Association for the school.  She decided to further her studies, and graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing in May 2017 from the University of South Florida, with a certification as a fa mily nurse practitioner. She then joined the Endocrinology of Central Fl team in November 2017.   
Toni Ballesteros
Toni graduated from Stetson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and taught advanced placement biology and anatomy/physiology for 12 years. She then spent a few years as a stay at home mom, then decided to return to school to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at University of Central Florida (UCF) in 2011. She worked as a registered nurse at Orlando Regional Medical Center while in graduate school, also at UCF. She graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing in 2014 and spent her first year as a certified nurse practitioner working in neurosurgery. She then joined the Endocrinology of Central Florida team in 2016.
Veronica
Veronica has worked as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner for 10 years. She obtained her BSN from  University of North Florida, in Jacksonville, FL and then obtained her MSN-FNP, from the University of Central Florida. She is currently certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Prior to working in endocrinology, she practiced in geriatrics and
family medicine.g Endocrinology of Central Florida, she worked in cardiology in Port Orange, Florida. She joined Endocrinology of Central Florida in 2006.


Kelly Koons
RD LDN CDE, is our Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian.  Kelly received her Food and Nutrition Science Degree from Florida State University.  She completed her Dietetics internship at St. Luke's Hospital and Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. 

Kelly has a passion for teaching people how to live healthful, nutritious lives and how to manage their diabetes through making changes to their lifestyles.  She has been in practice for 20 years, with specialties in weight loss, diabetes, cardiac disease and exercise therapy.  She is also a certified yoga instructor and enjoys teaching people how to work yoga into their exercise programs.
